Powder coating is a dry finishing process, using finely ground particles of pigment and resin that are generally electrostatically charged and sprayed onto electrically grounded steel bollards. The charged powder particles stick to the steel bollards and are held there until melted and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven. Before coating, the steel bollards are galvanized to greatly improve corrosion resistance. Unlike paint, which simply dries onto a surface, powder coating resins actually fuse to the metal substrate through the baking process, allowing for a beautiful, flexible and extremely durable finish. Powder coatings are resistant to abrasion, chipping, fracturing and deteriorating environmental factors such as ultraviolet radiation, smog, acid, alkalinity and salt spray. An almost limitless combinations of colour are possible with this process.
Hot Dip Galvanising is a combination of zinc and steel that provides corrosion resistance in a wide variety of environments. Hot Dip Galvanising protects steel bollards from corrosion in two ways. It provides cathodic protection and barrier protection.
YPL Streetfurnitures Steel bollards are coated with a thin layer of high grade zinc on both sides by hot dip zinc coating process. This process requires the drilling of two small holes in the bollard to allow venting to take place. The final product combines steel resistance and zinc durability, making it highly resistant to environmental rusting.
We can powder coat our steel bollards to any RAL after galvanising to provide a more visually attractive product.
